We sincerely thank all
those who took part in our bike run on the weekend of July 18th & 19th. Attendance
was lower than expected but that did not take from two great days. We started from
the Valley Hotel in Killarney and did the full Dingle peninsula including Slea Head
and then arrived back to Killarney in good time for the Pussycat Dolls concert at
the Fitzgerald Stadium.
The Dutchess did her first
run and tells me it was the second most enjoyable thing she ever did. She did not
say what the first thing was, but if I get any more info I will do a PS at the bottom.
Look out for her on the yellow cub. She should have a health warning on it like
cigarette packets.
Seamie arrived with Catherine’s
bike and it does not suit him. The rugged look is gone and he blended in with the
crowd. He took our advice and was back on the Mullinahone run with the auld bike
much more like Seamus.
Sunday we went to Kenmare /Ballyvourney
and were probably the first bike run ever to have stopped at the Top of Coom, which
is known to be the highest pub in Ireland. A sincere thank you goes to Tim &
Eileen and the family for their kind hospitality and the free use of their facilities
at the pub.
Some people said we should
have had something to eat available on our return to the hotel and that was our
mistake. Someone said if we waited until after "puck" there was a fine goat without
a home that would make a few burgers. A Northern friend said he would
rather die
of hunger before he would eat a Billy goat from Antrim!! Next year we promise to
provide food on the return as well as the lunch.
Most people seem to agree a
two day run is too much and we would appreciate honest comments negative or positive
in this regard and will not print them if you ask us not to.
Bearing in mind that every
penny raised goes directly to charity and that the organisers are all volunteers,
is €35.00 too high in the present financial climate?
Should a run include
all bikes and not just Step thru machines? I would like to see some of the older
bikes like Mikes URAL or Seamus might bring the Indian or Ariel? Paddy has a few
BSAs and Quicklys. Kate and Kevin from
Longford brought, I think it was, a PS50. Tom took his Royal Enfield along. Thanks
for the effort it was appreciated.
All ideas and comments are
greatly appreciated, as we want to make future runs as enjoyable as possible for
all.
Thanks once again.
